These incredible specimens are amazing! These are fossilized clams of the species Mercenaria permagna, estimated to be approx 2 million years old. Over time, honey calcite has replaced the clam and grown on these ancient shells.
The calcite crystals, known as dogtooth, have excellent terminations and many rainbows.

*These crystals were first discovered in Ruck’s Pit, a mining company that provided sand and materials for concrete. Collecting for specimens is no longer possible on the property, and truckloads of material are now brought to a separate location for people to sift though.
